Electroencephalography (EEG) is a method for studying brain electrical activity by placing electrodes on specific areas of the scalp.

Most of you must have seen doctors putting a cap with electrodes on a patient’s head. Well, it is the EEG method.

EEG records fluctuations of brain electrical activity on the scalp or, less often, on the cerebral cortex surface. Noise suppression methods and a specific signal decomposition allows the EEG method to provide a diagram of an electromagnetic wave (brain rhythm).

Scientists divide human brain activity waves (rhythms) into five main types: delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma. They differ in frequency and range. These rhythms are associated with various states of a human: feeling relaxed, experiencing pleasant conditions, tension, anxiety or stress, being awake, having high and low performance, etc.

We can identify these states with our devices and enable you to share them with your audience (during a stream), coach (during a gaming training session), while you can also use the data for self-analysis and improvement of your efficiency.

Gelo Headband is a wireless 4-channel electroencephalograph that goes as a flexible, stretchable band with dry electrodes and in-built electronics to provide accurate and reliable recording of brain electrical activity. 

Unlike in similar devices, electrode positions on the Gelo band correspond to the international 10-20 System of Electrode Placement. The electrodes ensure direct contact in the T3 and T4 temporal lobes, as well as O1 and O2 occipital lobes, which allows recording a professional electroencephalogram with the best quality among the brain interfaces available on the market.

A player is to wear Gelo Headband on their head, connect the device to our app, turn OBS on and play, during a stream (on a platform like Twitch) or a training session.

Besides, streamers can choose the design of various indicators they want to show to their audience during their live video.

Gamers, who use the product during training sessions, can benefit from device recording information on their performance and flow and sending it to their coach. This information can be seen on the shared dashboard or in a player’s stream both during the game and after the training session. All session records are saved and stored in the coach’s and players’ offices.

Depending on the device, the EEG method uses dry or wet electrodes to collect data on the brain rhythms. Technically, electrodes are the sensors for getting information on brain activity. Our devices employ dry electrodes that are significantly better than wet electrodes regarding quality of signal and convenience of usage.

The wet electrodes method uses a special electrode gel, which is put under the electrode cup with a syringe and blunt needle. Otherwise, electrodes (for example, the bridge ones) are first immersed in saline.

There is no need to go through all these activities with preliminary soaking and inserting gel to use the dry-electrode devices. Moreover, today’s dry electrodes ensure a better signal/noise ratio than the wet ones.

However, signal quality of a dry electrode depends on the mechanical contact with skin. Hence, it is important to make sure that electrodes sit tightly on the scalp, when using the devices.
